Moving Goose DecoyMotion in a goose decoy spread is essential to finishing snow or Canada geese to within shotgun range. I will discuss below how I prefer to add motion to my snow and Canada goose decoy spread from far away up to the finishing zone.Decoy Motion at a distanceNothing gets the attention of a passing flock of geese more than a flag. Wave a flag up and down to simulate a landing goose. I prefer a black flag when hunting Canada geese in everything but a chisel-plowed field. In this condition I prefer a brownish colored flag, as it will stand out farther against a dark background from a distance. For snow goose hunting I prefer a white flag unless I am hunting in snow. Then I prefer a gray flag to simulate a blue goose and stand out against the snow-covered ground. Decoy Motion up closeWhen geese get within 100-150 yards, anything you do to pinpoint your location will often hinder your success. You can flag at this range, but the geese will often times bust you if your hide is not perfect. This is why I prefer to use a bobble head on all my full body goose decoys. These heads are fully adjustable and will bob with the slightest breeze. I also use and highly recommend a flapping wing decoy like the Wing Waver to flag at geese when they are up close. The Wing Waver is very easy to use and provides realistic movement in your spread but away from you. The ability to move the motion away from your hide but still in your spread is what makes these decoys so deadly. The Wing Waver is a great moving goose decoy for any goose hunter and also allows you to get your non-experienced goose hunting friends involved in the hunt. Let them flap the Wing Waver when the geese are approaching. This will accomplish two things. It will help you decoy more geese and also get them hooked on goose hunting, as they now become part of the hunt instead of just being a shooter.
